In a significant move towards strengthening the judiciary, seven new Puisne Judges were officially sworn into office in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday. The formal ceremony, graced by the presence of President Christine Carla Kangaloo, took place at the President’s House. The new appointees were warmly welcomed by Ronnie Boodoosingh.
The newly installed judges are Madame Justice Rehanna Hosein, Madame Justice Hasine Shaikh, S.C., Madame Justice Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, Madame Justice Sherlanne Pierre, Madame Justice Wendy Ali, Mr. Justice Nirad Samnadda-Ramrekersingh, and Madame Justice Adia Mohammed. They now formally assume their roles, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s judiciary.
These appointments aim to bolster the efficiency and capacity of the court system, as the judiciary grapples with caseload demands while upholding the rule of law. The ceremony served to underscore the importance of judicial independence and the continued advancement of the legal framework in the country.
Officials reiterated that the induction of the new judges embodies a steadfast commitment to enhancing the administration of justice. This move is geared towards ensuring timely access to the courts for all citizens, a fundamental principle in the pursuit of justice.
