At least five individuals were hospitalized following a four-vehicle collision in Union Hall, San Fernando, on January 9. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the Golconda Connector Road and involved a trailer truck, a three-tonne truck, a Toyota van, and a Nissan Note.
Emergency services, including three ambulances and police from the Southern Division, responded to the scene, along with officers from the Mon Repos Fire Station. The road was subsequently closed to vehicular traffic, prompting drivers to seek alternative routes.
According to initial reports, the drivers of the three-tonne truck, identified as Andy Lalla and lorryman Joseph Vincent, were traveling east when the driver of the Nissan Note, heading in the opposite direction, allegedly veered into their path. Lalla attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, but contact was made between the vehicles.
The trailer truck following behind also swerved to prevent further accidents. The Toyota van, which was behind the Nissan Note, reportedly collided head-on with the trailer truck.
Lalla reported experiencing body pains and was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he and Vincent were treated for their injuries. Vincent expressed gratitude that the situation was not worse, noting the rapid sequence of events.
The driver of the van is reported to be a 61-year-old man. No additional injuries were reported, and police, including PC Ramrattan, are currently investigating the incident.
