On 9th March 2026, a significant milestone was reached as the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Republic of The Gambia formally established diplomatic relations. The Joint Communiqué, a document marking the formal diplomatic agreement, was signed by the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Honourable Sering Modou Njie, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of The Gambia. Both Ministers expressed their Governments’ dedication to bolstering ties of friendship and cooperation, aligning with the United Nations Charter, international law, and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. This new chapter opens doors for increased collaboration between the two nations.
