Transformation of San Fernando’s One Hundred Steps into Vibrant Landmark

San Fernando’s iconic One Hundred Steps has experienced a remarkable transformation. What was once a plain, concrete staircase used daily by residents for exercise and access between communities, has now turned into a vibrant national landmark. Its stark aesthetic, previously marred by signs of wear and minimal visual appeal, has been replaced with a bold and lively redesign.

The new design proudly showcases the red, black, and white colours of Trinidad and Tobago, detailed artwork, improved railings, and prominent signage marking it as the ‘One Hundred Steps’ under the San Fernando City Corporation. It’s an upgrade that has breathed life into what was once a simple, functional pathway.

The project owes its success to the generous donation made by the Rahaman Family and contributions from several local businesses. Their support is commemorated with a plaque at the site, highlighting the crucial role of private backing in public development.

The transformation has done more than just improve the appearance of the staircase. It has elevated the area’s appeal as a communal landmark and a popular photo spot, with residents and visitors alike sharing images of the site on social media. The One Hundred Steps now stands as an embodiment of how simple spaces can be reimagined into meaningful and aesthetically compelling landmarks, reinforcing civic pride within the city.
