A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday when a 65-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Marabella. Jameela Basrally, a resident of Soledad Road West, Claxton Bay, was the unfortunate victim of this tragic accident. She was walking near Market Street when a panel van, driven by a 51-year-old man, struck her. The driver reportedly swerved to avoid another vehicle before hitting Basrally.
Members of the public, including her own son, rushed to assist her near JTA Supermarket before the arrival of emergency responders. Despite their best efforts, Basrally was critically injured and had to be transported to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Hospital staff provided immediate treatment, but the severity of her injuries proved to be too much. Basrally later succumbed to her injuries while under medical care. The incident is all the more tragic as she would have celebrated her 66th birthday on September 2.
The Marabella police have taken over the case and are currently conducting investigations. As the community mourns the loss of one of their own, it serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of road safety.
