A group identifying itself as “ImNotAVillain” has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the digital bank Revolut, alleging that the breach included the theft of sensitive information belonging to the Italian police. According to reports from Rai, the hackers compromised an official email account belonging to the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria to solicit data from the bank. Believing the request to be legitimate, Revolut provided the personal details of 680 of its approximately 5 million Italian customers.
Revolut has confirmed the incident but stated that no customer funds were accessed or withdrawn. The hackers have reportedly demanded a ransom of 3 million USD, or approximately 2.6 million euros, in exchange for the stolen data. Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the breach, amid concerns that confidential police records may have been compromised.
In Rome, police have arrested a 50-year-old Italian man in connection with a series of shootings in the Prati district, near the Vatican. The suspect, identified as Edoardo Ciardiello Crescimanno, turned himself in to authorities while under investigation for allegedly targeting women and passers-by from his fourth-floor apartment on Via della Giuliana. Police seized air and gas guns from the residence. Two women have reported being struck by projectiles, with one requiring surgery, and the Carabinieri are investigating several other incidents in the area.
Separately, Italian police announced the arrest of 17 individuals following an investigation into an international network that distributed child sexual abuse material online. Rome chief prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi described the organization as being structured like a multinational company. The network operated via the Telegram app and was allegedly managed by four Italians and one Swiss national, all between the ages of 22 and 28. The investigation, which began in 2024 following a tip from US Homeland Security Investigations, involved an undercover Italian officer who gained access to the group’s private channels by becoming a co-administrator.
