The Trinidad and Tobago Government is urgently addressing land tenure issues in Tobago, revealing that over $150 million in state lands has been transferred to citizens through a regularisation programme. Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, Saddam Hosein, made this announcement at a ceremony in Barataria. Hosein affirmed that Tobago’s land issues are now a priority for the ministry. The ceremony marked the second distribution of 100 Certificates of Comfort for people in the East-West Corridor since Hosein became a minister in May 2025. Another 100 certificates were issued during the Christmas period. According to Hosein, the Government is restoring dignity to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. The initiative has seen 200 Certificates of Comfort distributed nationwide, and 300 residential leases issued to former Caroni (1975) Ltd workers. Hosein stated that the ministry has delivered approximately $150 million worth of land to citizens. The programme will continue next week in Couva South, with 300 additional residential leases to be distributed.
