Tobago House Dismisses Claims of Resort Access Blockage

Claims that locals in Tobago are being restricted from accessing Grafton Beach Resort due to the presence of US military personnel have been dismissed by the Tobago House of Assembly. Chief Secretary Farley Augustine clarified that residents are free to use the resort, and the presence of the US military has not affected public access. He stated that the officers are expected to leave within days, echoing earlier statements from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. US personnel have been stationed in Tobago since the installation of a radar system at the ANR Robinson International Airport last year, costing approximately US$3 million per day. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that intelligence sharing between the US and Trinidad and Tobago has been beneficial in recent operations.
