Trinidad and Tobago was absent from an emergency CARICOM heads of government meeting called to address the country’s protest over the reappointment of Secretary General Dr. Carla Barnett. CNC3 reported that neither Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar nor Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers attended, while Ambassador Ralph Maraj was also reportedly absent. The development could deepen regional tensions over the issue.
