The Met Gala’s red (well, cream) carpet opens, featuring long clusters of white florals

The Met Gala’s iconic red carpet, this year a cream hue, has opened, adorned with long clusters of white florals that cascade from the canopy-like ceiling. Attendees are greeted with a stunning visual feast as they enter the event, which celebrates the intersection of fashion and art.

This year’s theme, ‘Fashion Is Art,’ invites guests to honor the myriad ways the dressed body has been depicted throughout art history. Amidst the glamour, Broadway star Joshua Henry captivated the audience with a performance, contributing to the event’s high-energy atmosphere.

While entry to the Gala is exclusive, the public can still partake in the festivities by receiving pieces of the carpet. Ed Resnick, the owner of Event Carpet, has been a staple at the Gala for 23 years, distributing leftover pieces to eager fans across the street from the venue. The pieces this year are off-white with splashes of green paint, reflecting the unique design.

Crafted from sisal, a biodegradable natural fiber sourced from India, the carpet’s material was chosen for its ability to absorb paint, a crucial aspect of this year’s artistic vision. As the evening unfolds, the combination of fashion and art continues to inspire and delight both attendees and onlookers alike.
