The Engineer Behind Togo’s Phosphate Revival: Abalo Michel KEZIE

Abalo Michel KEZIE, Director General of the Société Nouvelle des Phosphates du Togo (SNPT), is the man steering the country’s phosphate industry into a new era. An engineer by training and an extractive industries specialist, KEZIE has spent the bulk of his career at the state-owned company, rising from technical director to its top executive. Under his leadership, SNPT has launched a sweeping modernization of its production tools, targeting more efficient extraction and processing at its mining sites and the Kpémé plant. With international market volatility and environmental pressures mounting, KEZIE champions a strategy centered on local value creation, resource transformation, and sustainable mining. He consistently frames phosphate as a strategic lever for Togo’s industrialization, job creation, and economic diversification, aiming to solidify the country’s position among Africa’s top phosphate producers.
