The events of April 13 and 14, 1987, continue to be a significant point of historical reflection in Senegal, marking a period of professional and personal upheaval for thousands of law enforcement personnel. During that year, then-President Abdou Diouf enacted law 87-14, which resulted in the immediate dismissal of 6,265 police officers following a period of internal unrest within the force.
According to reports from the publication Le Soleil, the mass dismissal caused widespread trauma for the families of the affected officers. While the government subsequently reinstated the majority of those dismissed, approximately 1,200 agents were not rehired and remained permanently separated from the police force.
