Terremoto de magnitud 7 sacude islas al sur de Tokio sin alerta de tsunami

A magnitude‑7 earthquake struck the Ogasawara Islands, an archipelago about 1,000 km south of Tokyo, on Sunday morning. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported the quake at 11:10 a.m. local time, with a focal depth of approximately 470 km in the waters west of the islands. The shaking reached level 3 on Japan’s seven‑tier seismic scale in the islands of Chichijima and Hahajima, and was also felt in Tokyo and other parts of eastern and northeastern Japan. The JMA stated that there was no risk of a tsunami following the event. No damage or casualties have been reported to date. Japan, located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” has stringent building codes and early‑warning systems to mitigate the impacts of frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
