Matteo Berrettini won the opening round of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna after his opponent, Flavio Cobolli, retired with an injury. The match ended after just seven games when Cobolli, who was leading 5‑2, withdrew due to pain in his left leg. Cobolli had already been wearing a visible bandage on his left thigh before the match began. Cobolli left the court in tears, and Berrettini, who was leading 5‑2, approached him to offer consolation. The Italian, ranked world No. 6, will face Australian Alex De Minaur (world No. 10) in the quarter‑finals. Cobolli had previously reported physical problems in his first‑round match against Grigor Dimitrov, where he requested a medical time‑out between the second and third sets. He entered that match with a similar bandage on his left thigh. Cobolli’s injury has raised concerns about his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin, scheduled for 15‑22 November. He is close to the points required for qualification, and missing the event would be a significant disappointment.
