Tems opens up about wearing baggy clothes and focusing on

International star Tems is opening up about the realities many female artists quietly face while building their careers in music.
In a candid conversation now circulating online, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer reflected on her early days navigating studio spaces as an unknown artist. She said there was a time she did not always feel comfortable with her body and often felt misunderstood while trying to break into the industry.
According to Tems, she frequently attended recording sessions alone, meeting producers and collaborators for the first time while simply trying to learn and create. Her only goal at the time was to make music and improve her skills. She said she was not interested in industry politics or distractions that could derail her progress.
However, she revealed that being an attractive young woman sometimes made it harder for people to focus on her work. To keep the environment strictly professional, she would intentionally wear baggy clothing to the studio and adopt what she described as a focused “work mode” mentality.
Tems explained that the approach helped set boundaries and signal that she was there to create music, not entertain distractions. She noted that most times it worked and allowed her to collaborate more effectively with producers who understood she was serious about her craft.
Her comments have sparked conversation online about the pressures female artists face behind the scenes, especially when trying to build credibility in male-dominated studio environments. Many listeners say her story highlights a reality that is rarely discussed publicly but widely experienced across the global music industry.
Today, Tems is recognized as one of the most influential voices in contemporary music, collaborating with major international acts and earning global acclaim. Her reflections offer a reminder that even the biggest stars often navigate complex challenges long before the spotlight arrives.
For many fans and aspiring artists, her message is clear: focus, boundaries, and determination can help turn talent into lasting success.
