In a deeply emotional decision, 14-year-old Levi Mohammed has chosen to halt his cancer treatment. Levi has been battling a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia since he was only eight years old, a journey that has included multiple relapses and exhaustive medical procedures.
Recently, his condition significantly worsened, necessitating two brain surgeries as a way to manage serious complications. Despite dedicated medical efforts, new symptoms emerged suggesting the cancer had returned for a third time, spreading to various parts of his body.
After doctors indicated that further treatment would not result in a cure but would only prolong his suffering, Levi courageously decided to shift his focus to comfort and peace. This decision was led by Levi himself, choosing to rest after enduring the physical and emotional toll of the illness for years.
The family had been preparing to travel overseas for urgent medical care, including plans to return to a hospital in North Carolina. They had launched a GoFundMe campaign to meet the high cost of this care, raising approximately Can$244,020 of their Can$400,000 goal. However, the campaign has since been paused following Levi’s decision and the latest medical developments.
Now, all efforts are concentrated on ensuring Levi’s comfort and surrounding him with love as he navigates this final stage of his journey. Levi’s story, a poignant testament to the harsh realities of childhood cancer and the resilience of one young boy, has resonated deeply with many.
