In a targeted anti-crime operation, the Southern Division Task Force detained 44 undocumented immigrants on Sunday. The operation, conducted between the hours of 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., took place at a property in Malgretoute Village, Princes Town, reputedly used for illegal gambling activities, including cockfighting.
As officers entered the building, several individuals attempted to flee, with some resorting to jumping from the second floor. Alongside the foreign nationals, 50 Trinidad and Tobago citizens were also apprehended during the operation.
One male immigrant sustained injuries while trying to escape and is currently under hospital guard. The injured individual is cooperating with authorities in an ongoing investigation into alleged forged documents.
The operation was carefully coordinated by senior officers of the Southern Division, with assistance from the Central Division Task Force and the Criminal Investigations Department. Authorities have stated that this operation forms part of an ongoing effort to combat illegal immigration and related criminal activities.
