Tarouba Underground Car Show Canceled Over Safety Concerns Amid Smoke Chaos

Thousands of car enthusiasts swarmed Tarouba over the weekend for an underground car show, causing heavy traffic around the Xtra Foods Plaza. The show attracted patrons from across Trinidad and Tobago, with nearly 200 luxury, sports and antique vehicles, including high-end models like GTRs, Ferraris and Porsches, on display.

However, the event took an unexpected turn when some drivers reportedly ignored warnings against burnouts, leading to a smoke buildup inside the enclosed car park. This led to safety concerns, prompting fire officials to order the shutdown of the underground section.

Despite the organisers’ claims that they had secured the necessary approvals and paid for police and fire services, the programme had to be cut short and patrons evacuated. The abrupt end to what was shaping up to be an impressive display of automotive luxury sparked a wave of mixed reactions online.

While many praised the scale and atmosphere of the event, others criticised the severe traffic congestion and the noise that disturbed nearby residents. The incident has raised questions about the management of such large-scale events and the need for stricter adherence to safety protocols.
