Ishmael Azizi, a Tanzanian man, has been declared medically dead six times, only to come back to life each time. His inexplicable survival has stirred fear and speculation within his local community. His first near-death experience occurred after a workplace accident, followed by bouts with malaria, a car accident, a venomous snake bite, and falling into a toilet pit. Each time, he was declared dead and his body was taken to the morgue, but he would regain consciousness, even once waking up in his own coffin. His community, spooked by his recurring resurrections, tried to kill him for the sixth time by burning his house down. However, Azizi survived yet again. Now, he lives in isolation due to the stigma and fear his unusual story has generated.
