T&TEC confirms electricity restored following two generator trips Tuesday morning.

Electricity supply was fully restored at 6:29 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, following a widespread power outage that affected 23 communities across Trinidad.

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) confirmed that the disruption began at 4:45 a.m. after two generators tripped at an Independent Power Producer (IPP) facility.

Restoration began at 5:21 a.m., with electricity gradually returning to affected areas. Full restoration was achieved one hour and 44 minutes after the initial interruption.

Among the communities affected were Piarco, St Augustine, Caroni, Valsayn, Chaguanas, Manzanilla, Freeport, Port of Spain, Biche, Craignish, Brickfield and Sangre Grande.

Other affected areas included Trincity, Fyzabad, Arouca, Charlieville, Cunupia, Orange Grove, Sea Lots, Chaguaramas, Rio Claro, Longdenville and Malabar.

Although T&TEC identified generator trips as the immediate cause, the Commission did not disclose which Independent Power Producer was involved or what caused the generators to trip.

Of particular concern, T&TEC acknowledged that similar incidents at Independent Power Producer facilities have contributed to other unplanned outages in recent months.

The Commission said it continues to work closely with electricity producers to investigate these incidents, identify underlying causes and introduce preventative measures to strengthen the reliability and stability of the national electricity grid.

T&TEC apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by Tuesday morning’s disruption.
