In a swift response to a pair of home invasions in Siparia, police from the South Western Division (SWD) successfully apprehended five suspects on August 8th, 2026. The incidents unfolded in Mendez Village, where the first occurred at 3:45 a.m., involving Victim 1, who was ambushed in his gallery and forced into his home by four masked men, one armed. The intruders restrained him and stole a cellular phone and jewellery before fleeing in a white Toyota Aqua.
Later that day, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a second home invasion was reported in the same village. Victims 2 and 3 were caught off-guard by three masked men, one brandishing a weapon. The suspects made off with two mobile devices, a Scotiabank card, jewellery, and $3,000 TTD, again using a Toyota Aqua for their escape.
Upon receiving the reports, officers promptly arrived at the scenes, gathered witness statements, and reviewed CCTV footage. They discovered a black Nissan Kicks accompanying the Toyota Aqua. A broadcast was issued, and a Highway Patrol Unit intercepted the Nissan Kicks near the Gasparillo Overpass, recovering stolen items from the vehicle.
The driver, identified as a 23-year-old member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, was arrested alongside four other individuals from Penal and Port of Spain. Items recovered included phones and jewellery belonging to the victims.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incidents, ensuring justice is served for the affected residents of Mendez Village. The arrests underscore the efficacy of swift police action and community vigilance in tackling crime.
