Recent home invasions across Trinidad and Tobago, some of which have resulted in fatalities, have heightened public concern over violent criminal activity targeting residents.
In response, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has intensified operations aimed at tackling armed offenders involved in home invasions and related crimes.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro emphasized the importance of public vigilance and cooperation, urging citizens to report suspicious activity promptly to law enforcement authorities.
According to the TTPS, two police-involved shootings connected to home invasion incidents occurred within a 24-hour period, highlighting the dangers faced by both residents and responding officers.
“Armed criminality will be met with a firm and immediate police response,” Commissioner Guevarro stated during a recent media briefing.
The TTPS is encouraging residents to play an active role in protecting their communities by remaining alert and reporting suspicious behaviour through emergency numbers 999 or 555, or by contacting the nearest police station.
Commissioner Guevarro noted that timely reporting can assist officers in preventing crimes and potentially saving lives.
In light of the recent incidents, police have increased patrols and operations in several affected areas as part of ongoing efforts to deter violent criminal activity and reassure communities.
The TTPS reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly and lawfully to threats against public safety, while reminding citizens that cooperation between communities and law enforcement remains critical in the fight against crime.
Authorities also warned that violent offences involving firearms will continue to receive an immediate and decisive response from police.
