In a tragic turn of events, 28-year-old Saleem Gopaul, a pharmacist from Chaguanas, was found lifeless in his bedroom. Saleem was discovered by concerned relatives who, after being unable to reach him, decided to break down his bedroom door, only to find him lying motionless.
Saleem was a dedicated professional, providing medical assistance to his community as a pharmacist at the well-known SuperPharm. His untimely death has left loved ones and colleagues alike in a state of shock and mourning.
The family is preparing to bid their final adieu to Saleem on Monday, with a Janazah followed by a burial, adhering to Muslim rites. The sudden loss is a haunting echo of a past tragedy, as Saleem’s father, Shastri Gopaul, was shot and killed at a quarry site in Santa Cruz back in 2023.
In a previous interview with the Trinidad Express, Saleem had expressed profound sorrow about not having the opportunity to bid his father goodbye. He stated, ‘I mean, everybody has to die at some point, but I would have rather that he lie down in hospital and he goes like that. At least I would have gotten the chance to say goodbye to my father.’
The circumstances surrounding Saleem’s death are currently under investigation by the local police.
