Stroke Patient Perishes in Barrackpore Fire

Bachan Samlal, a 60-year-old stroke patient, tragically died in a house fire at his residence in Barrackpore on March 1st, 2026. The fire, which began in the evening around 5:00 p.m., engulfed Samlal’s small home completely while his former common-law wife was away. Despite swift response from Mon Repos Fire Station, the $40,000 concrete-and-board structure was destroyed entirely. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered Samlal’s body amongst the wreckage. The cause of the fire, and the circumstances surrounding Samlal’s death, are currently under investigation.
