Stolen car returned to Aranguez resident after violent robbery
A 36-year-old woman from Sundersingh Drive, Aranguez, was violently robbed in Port-of-Spain on Sunday, but later found her stolen car parked near her home.
Police reported that the woman was sitting in her silver Hyundai Elantra around 12:45 p.m. near the old Salvatori Building on Independence Square. The engine was running and the keys were still in the ignition.
A red Toyota Aqua stopped in front of her car, and a man got out and approached her driver’s-side window. According to the victim, he reached into the vehicle and snatched three gold chains: a Cuban link chain with a jade pendant worth $5,000, another gold chain with a Hello Kitty pendant also worth $5,000, and a third chain valued at $2,200.
When she tried to resist, the attacker struck her several times, tore the chains from her neck, opened her car door, pulled her out, and threw her onto the roadway before driving off in her vehicle.
After filing a police report, the woman returned home. A few hours later, a neighbor informed her that her Hyundai had been seen parked further down her street. She found the car locked with the keys placed on the hood. The stolen jewelry was not recovered.
