A jury in McDonald, Pennsylvania, acquitted 46‑year‑old Steven J. Budai of assault charges related to a September 2025 confrontation with police, while finding him guilty of three other offenses. Budai was cleared of four counts of assault on a law‑enforcement officer involving a discharged firearm and four aggravated‑assault counts. The jury convicted him of possessing an instrument of crime with intent and of two counts of recklessly endangering another person. He was also acquitted of two additional reckless‑endangerment charges. The case stemmed from an incident on the 300 block of Fairmont Street in which police alleged Budai fired at officers before barricading himself inside a home and eventually surrendering peacefully. No injuries were reported, although police and civilian vehicles were struck during the exchange. Sentencing for the convictions is pending. The case was reported by WPXI.
