Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the deaths of two minors in the Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas. The arrests were announced by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, in a statement released on Monday. The first incident involved a boy who died on 24 October 2026 after allegedly ingesting a beverage given to him by his stepmother, Fatima Ibrahim, 23, of Kwaimawa village. According to Habib, the boy began vomiting shortly after consuming the drink and was taken to a Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe. He reportedly fought for his life for eight days before a medical doctor confirmed his death on 24 October. “Following a report by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect. She is now in custody as the investigation continues,” the statement read. The second case concerns a five‑year‑old girl who was found dead in a pit in Badaromo village on 24 October. Her grandfather reported her missing to police at about 7 pm on 23 October, prompting a search by community residents. The body was discovered in a small water pit behind the village at about 7 am the following day. “Upon receiving the report, police operatives from Soro Division cordoned off the scene and arrested one Sadiku Musa, 19, of the same address, in connection with the heinous act,” the statement added. Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation. State Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu described the incidents as “heartbreaking and inhumane” and pledged that the command would pursue justice for the children. He also urged parents, guardians and community leaders to pay closer attention to child safety.
