Spain Clinches Second World Cup Title with Extra-Time Victory Over Argentina

Spain secured their second FIFA World Cup crown with a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over defending champions Argentina at MetLife Stadium. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, heading in a cross from Nico Williams.

The win completed an unbeaten tournament for Spain, adding the 2026 world title to their UEFA Euro 2024 triumph. Despite a valiant effort from Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who made 12 saves, Torres’ strike proved unstoppable.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi set a new record as the oldest outfield player to appear in a World Cup final at 39 years and 25 days. The match also saw Spain’s teenage duo Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi make history, becoming the fourth and fifth teenagers to feature in a World Cup final.

Spanish tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal joined the celebrations on social media, congratulating the national team on their historic achievement.
