SpaceX Starship Launch Aborted Seconds Before Blastoff as Engines Fail

SpaceX’s 13th test flight of the Starship ended in a dramatic abort seconds before liftoff on Thursday, as multiple engines malfunctioned. The rocket was set to launch from the Starbase facility in Texas, but the countdown was halted automatically. ‘Some of the engines didn’t start, triggering an automatic launch abort,’ SpaceX CEO Elon Musk confirmed on X. The failure to ignite caused the Super Heavy booster to hold, leaving the massive rocket on the pad. The mission was planned to deploy 20 new Starlink satellites. The abort follows upgrades after the May test flight, where the booster simulated a landing but exploded, and the upper stage broke apart in the Indian Ocean. The latest setback also hit SpaceX’s stock, which dropped to $131.11 on Friday, below its IPO price of $135. Musk announced that the next attempt would come ‘hopefully in a few days.’
