On 21 September 2026, New Zealand Defence Minister Paul Goldsmith travelled to Fiji to attend the South Pacific Defence Ministers’ Meeting (SPDMM), an annual ministerial dialogue that focuses on defence and security issues affecting the South Pacific region.
Goldsmith said the meeting was “an important forum encouraging dialogue and building consensus and cooperation amongst Pacific defence partners” as security challenges in the region intensify.
