NCSHL Source Disputes Viral Claim That Sherry Ann Sookhoo Was Appointed Acting CEO
A social media claim that Sherry Ann Sookhoo has been appointed acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Self Help Limited (NCSHL) is being disputed by a source familiar with operations at the state company.
The controversy emerged after Facebook page The Real Cabby published a post congratulating Sookhoo on what it described as her “newest appointment.”
The post alleged that NCSHL chairman Dr Kerry Rai had sent CEO Lester Leu on leave to accommodate Sookhoo, whom the page identified as the Commission’s Communications Manager. It also made several additional allegations concerning Sookhoo’s qualifications, the circumstances surrounding Leu’s leave and employment decisions at the organisation.
However, information provided to TG News by a source familiar with the Commission’s operations directly contradicts the central claim.
The source said Sookhoo has not been appointed acting CEO and remains in her communications role at the Commission.
According to the source, no acting CEO has been appointed at this time.
An internal communication seen by TG confirms that Leu was placed on administrative leave by a decision of the NCSHL Board of Directors, effective August 18, 2026.
The correspondence, addressed to managers, informed them that subsequent actions, decisions, approvals and correspondence connected to the administrative leave should be managed according to the responsibilities of their respective offices.
Managers were also instructed to ensure that operations continued in accordance with established policies, procedures, reporting lines and applicable authorities.
The internal notice does not name Sookhoo as acting CEO, nor does the portion of the correspondence seen by TrinGlobe announce the appointment of another person to perform the CEO’s duties.
The source told TG that Leu was placed on administrative leave in relation to alleged misconduct. TrinGlobe has not independently established the nature or substance of those allegations, and administrative leave by itself should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing.
The National Commission for Self Help’s official website identifies Lester Leu as its Chief Executive Officer. The Commission announced his appointment in March 2026.
The viral Facebook post has generated significant public reaction, with commenters debating political appointments and employment practices within state enterprises.
However, several of those discussions appear to have proceeded on the assumption that Sookhoo’s appointment as acting CEO had already occurred.
Based on the internal correspondence reviewed by TG and information supplied by a source familiar with the Commission’s operations, there is currently no evidence available to TG confirming the social media claim that Sookhoo was appointed acting CEO.
TG has not independently verified the other allegations made in the Facebook post concerning the chairman, Sookhoo’s qualifications or other employment decisions at the Commission.
The situation remains developing, and any subsequent official announcement from the NCSHL regarding interim leadership would provide further clarification.
