Jordan Teze, the 27‑year‑old Monégasque defender, has become a valuable asset for AS Monaco thanks to his versatility on the pitch. The club will take on Paris FC on Sunday at 17:15, with Teze expected to start in central defence after two recent appearances in that role. Teze joined Monaco in the summer of 2024 as a right back, but his early months were marked by a slow start, an exclusion in a match against Lille at the end of 2024, and a thigh injury that limited his playing time. He has since acknowledged that he was not at the level expected and that he needed to step up his performance. His adaptability dates back to his youth career at PSV Eindhoven. Rini De Groot, a recruiter in PSV’s youth system, recalled that Teze was “always the name that came to the top of the list” when the U15 coach selected lineups. De Groot explained that Teze began as a right winger at age nine, moved to right fullback at 11‑12, and became a central defender by 14. He has also played central midfield alongside Armando Obispo, demonstrating a breadth of experience across the backline and midfield. Coaches at Monaco have praised Teze’s intelligence and willingness to adapt. Former Nice goalkeeper Walter Benítez said, “He accepts because he is intelligent.” Filipe Luis, Monaco’s current head coach, noted that Teze’s Dutch upbringing has taught him to “play at these different positions because he knows what each role demands.” Luis added that Teze can build play from the back, find accurate passes, and remains calm with the ball, qualities that also allow him to slot into midfield when needed. Physically, Teze is described as fast, strong, and mature. He played 44 matches last season without injury and scored a memorable goal in a Champions League tie against Manchester City. His teammates and coaches highlight his commitment, noting that he “invests 100 %,” possesses a winning mentality, and is a true team player. Teze was retained by Monaco after an offer from Everton, a decision the club sees as a wise investment in a player who can contribute across multiple positions. He will look to continue his versatile performances against Paris FC this Sunday.
