Sean Sobers Takes Centre Stage in Antigua, Representing PM Kamla at Commonwealth Summit

Trinidad and Tobago's Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers, has been actively representing Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on the international stage, participating in diplomatic engagements during the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.

Images and video shared by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on Tuesday, November 3, offered a glimpse into the Minister's activities, showing him meeting international representatives, exchanging handshakes and participating in engagements surrounding the high-level gathering.

The visuals also captured moments of travel by boat and activities associated with the opening day of the Commonwealth summit.

Sobers is attending the meeting on behalf of Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar, following confirmation from the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday that she would no longer travel to Antigua and Barbuda as previously announced.

The Ministry highlighted the Minister's participation in a series of engagements, underscoring Trinidad and Tobago's continued representation at one of the Commonwealth's most significant international gatherings.

The summit, being held in St John's from November 1 to 4, brings together political leaders and representatives from across the Commonwealth's 56 member countries.

Under the theme "Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth", the gathering focuses on strengthening international cooperation, expanding trade and investment opportunities, addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable economic development.

For Trinidad and Tobago, the meeting provides an opportunity to participate in discussions affecting both the Caribbean region and the wider international community.

Sobers has also reportedly represented the Prime Minister at a high-level engagement involving Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Caribbean leaders, where strengthening regional and international partnerships was among the areas of discussion.

The Minister's participation comes as Commonwealth leaders examine ways to deepen economic relationships, improve opportunities for smaller countries and respond collectively to global challenges.

While details of the outcomes of Sobers' individual diplomatic meetings have not yet been fully disclosed, the images released by the Ministry demonstrate Trinidad and Tobago's presence in the ongoing international engagements.

As the summit continues, attention will turn to the discussions and potential opportunities emerging from the gathering, particularly those relevant to the Caribbean and small island developing states.

For Sobers, the Antigua visit places him at the forefront of Trinidad and Tobago's diplomatic representation during an important week for Commonwealth relations.
