Croatia Records announced that a commemoration for the late singer Miša Kovač will take place on Wednesday, 11 November 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Small Hall of Vatroslav Lisinski. The press release described the event as a tribute to a “greatman of Croatian popular music” and highlighted Kovač’s unique charisma, voice, and status as a symbol of Dalmatia. It added that the ceremony would be held in the company of his family and requested respect for their privacy during this difficult time. Kovač, who died on a Saturday at the age of 86, was a beloved figure in Croatian music. His death prompted spontaneous tributes in Šibenik, where citizens sang farewell to him the day before the scheduled commemoration. In Split, a farewell ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. today at Poljud Stadium. The event is organized by HNK Hajduk, KNH Torcida, and the Croatian Music Association. The stadium will be transformed into a stage where friends and colleagues—including Giuliano, Mladen Grdović, Dražen Zečić, Jole, Alen Nižetić, and the choir Klapa Rišpet—will perform some of Kovač’s most famous songs. An orchestra of local musicians will accompany the performances, and thousands of fans are expected to attend. A particularly moving moment will involve a vehicle bearing Kovač’s lizard (Mišinim lijesom) circling the football field, symbolizing the final tribute from Poljud, a venue where his songs had been part of the club’s tradition for decades. The Croatian government declared Tuesday as a National Day of Condolence in honor of Kovač’s passing. On this day, the flag of the Republic of Croatia will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, as well as on premises of state authorities, local and regional self‑governments, and other public institutions. Unlike a Day of Grief, which requires the cancellation of entertainment and cultural events, the National Day of Condolence does not mandate the cancellation of previously scheduled concerts or programs, according to a government statement. Kovač’s final wish was to be buried in a specific location, a place that will become his eternal resting place.
