Six Improvised Weapons Seized in Routine Search at Eastern Correctional Facility

In a routine security sweep on August 11, 2026, at the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC), officers from the ‘C’ Batch successfully uncovered six improvised weapons. The search, carried out around 10:45 a.m., targeted the Hope Division of the facility, where the weapons were found concealed at the top of a cell.

The discovery underscores the persistent threat that improvised weapons pose within correctional settings. Such items can endanger the lives of both inmates and staff, making their detection and removal a priority for maintaining order and safety. The officers’ diligence in this routine exercise highlights the essential role of regular searches in deterring violence and securing the environment.

This incident serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required in correctional facilities to ensure the safety of all individuals within. The successful confiscation of these hazardous items is a testament to the thoroughness and attention to detail exercised by the officers involved.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service continues to emphasize the importance of frequent search operations and the need for continued alertness to uphold security standards within their institutions.
