The Culture Week (Siman di Cultura) officially began on September 19, 2026, at the UNOCA facility in Oranjestad. The opening event featured a presentation by Cesáreo Jean Louis, who delivered a lecture focused on the origins and history of the waltz in Aruba.
During the session, Jean Louis discussed how the waltz was adopted locally and provided historical context regarding the evolution of Aruban folklore. Organizers emphasized that the event aims to ensure the accurate preservation and transmission of traditional dances to future generations.
The Fundacion Salvaguardia Herencia Cultural Aruba has announced a follow-up lecture scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2026. This session will also be led by Jean Louis and will focus on folkloric dances with African and Caribbean influences, including the tumba, tambu, seu, and danza. The event is open to teachers and dance instructors and will take place at UNOCA from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
