Sierra Leone Ratifies African Court Protocol, Earns Praise from Climate Platform

The African Climate Platform (ACP) has welcomed Sierra Leone’s ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on the Establishment of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, describing the move as a historic milestone that strengthens the country’s commitment to human rights, the rule of law and climate justice across Africa.

In a statement, the ACP commended the Sierra Leonean government for taking this significant step, which aligns with broader efforts to ensure accountability and justice on the continent. The ratification is seen as a boost for climate justice, as the African Court can now hear cases related to environmental rights and climate change impacts.

This development positions Sierra Leone as a leader among African nations in upholding human rights and advancing climate justice. The ACP urged other countries to follow Sierra Leone’s example to reinforce the continent’s legal frameworks.
