In a troubling incident in Morvant, a 37-year-old man named Keston Butler was shot in the leg while socializing near a fruit stall. The shooting occurred on the evening of July 16th, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. Police officers from the Morvant CID, including PC Phillip, PC Malchan, and PC Nicholas, responded to reports of the shooting. Upon arrival, they spoke to local residents, but no one reported any sounds or sightings of the incident. Afterward, the officers went to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where they confirmed that Butler had been treated for a gunshot wound to his upper right leg. Butler recounted that between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., while he was liming with his back turned to the road, a white Toyota Aqua drove slowly behind him just before he heard three loud bangs and felt a burning sensation in his leg. He managed to escape but could not identify the direction in which the vehicle had fled. After arriving at the hospital, Butler declined to reveal who brought him there. Police later returned to the scene to search for any evidence such as spent shells or blood, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. The investigation into the incident, which is being treated as wounding with intent, is still ongoing.
