Hanif Benjamin, the former chairman of the Children’s Authority, has been charged with two sexual offenses involving a minor. The allegations came to light earlier this month when a report was made to the police at the Brasso Police Station. Benjamin, accompanied by his attorney, visited the station on Tuesday where he was subsequently detained. Late yesterday evening, he was charged and transferred to the Couva Police Station, where he is currently in custody. Benjamin is slated to appear before a Couva Master’s Court today to face these serious charges, which have raised significant public concern regarding the safety of children under the authority’s care.
