Severe Flooding Kills 25 in Nairobi

Torrential rainfall has led to widespread flash flooding across Nairobi, Kenya, causing at least 25 deaths and leaving numerous motorists stranded with major roads submerged. Victims were caught in rapidly rising floodwaters or electrocuted amidst the severe weather, and authorities predict the death toll may increase as search and rescue operations proceed. The heavy rain, which began on Friday, overwhelmed drainage systems and submerged many vehicles, causing significant disruption to air travel. Military reinforcements have been sent to aid emergency operations and President William Ruto has activated a multi-agency response to assist at-risk individuals and relocate families from high-risk areas. The government has also pledged to cover hospital expenses for the injured and supply emergency food to affected communities, amidst concerns over inadequate preparation for the rainy season.
