The board of the VR trade union has issued a formal statement expressing significant concerns regarding the government’s proposed budget bill. According to the union, the current legislative proposal threatens the stability of existing collective agreements within the private sector.
Halla Gunnarsdóttir, chair of VR, stated that the share of productivity gains allocated to workers in Iceland remains high when compared to nations where trade union influence has been diminished or dismantled. The union board argues that the measures outlined in the budget bill could undermine these economic conditions and jeopardize the continuity of labor agreements.
