Senegal Sacks Coach Pape Thiaw and Entire Technical Staff After World Cup Exit

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has fired head coach Pape Thiaw and all members of the national team’s technical staff following an emergency meeting on Saturday, July 11. The decision comes just over a week after Senegal’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement read by the head of the FSF Communications Commission, the federation announced the formal process to end the duties of Thiaw and his entire backroom team. The Executive Committee said the move was based on an assessment of Senegal’s performance at the World Cup and the future prospects of the Lions.

The FSF has mandated its president, Abdoulaye Fall, to officially inform the Government of Senegal and to formally notify Pape Thiaw of the decision. The federation described the dismissal as being in the best interests of Senegalese football.

Thiaw’s tenure ends abruptly after a disappointing World Cup campaign, leaving the Lions searching for new leadership ahead of future qualifiers and tournaments.
