The constitutional arrangements of our country have held up, working as intended. Independent Senators, despite facing threats and insults, have defended the nation’s stability and future against a potentially destructive ‘crime-fighting panacea’. This plan, had it been allowed to proceed, could have created chaos by enabling the unchecked militarization of policing in our society. The accusation that those opposing this plan support criminals is a hollow response. The accuser herself, known for appointing individuals with questionable backgrounds and aiding those who face criminal conduct charges, is not in a position to lecture on law respect and affiliations with the criminally inclined. Attempting to push forward a clearly failed initiative is the act of a tyrant. Abandoning the expected commitment to proper modern policing only underscores the dangers and unsuitability of this unstable, destructive regime that is led by an individual unfit to manage our affairs, particularly in matters of safety and security.
