Search Ends in Tragedy: Body of Missing Woman Found in Matura River

The search for Tara Lochansingh, a 48-year-old woman who went missing during a family outing in Matura River, ended tragically when her body was found on Saturday morning. Lochansingh, from Navet Village, disappeared while swimming with her granddaughter on Emancipation Day. Although the child was rescued, the strong currents swept Lochansingh away. Following her disappearance, a multi-agency search operation was initiated, involving the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Coast Guard divers, and the Hunters Search and Rescue Team. Her body was located beneath a bamboo patch along the riverbank. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death, while investigations continue. The incident has deeply affected the local community, highlighting the risks associated with swollen rivers during the rainy season.
