Sarsfields blast title warning in opening round of Galway Senior Camogie Championship

**Opening Round of the Galway Senior Camogie Championship – Saturday, 27 July 2024**

*Kilbeacanty, County Galway* – The first round of the 2024 Galway Senior Camogie Championship saw four Senior A fixtures and four Senior B fixtures completed on Saturday, with several teams posting dominant victories.

**Senior A**

* **Sarsfields 5‑13 – 1‑5 Davitts**
Sarsfields opened the scoring with two points from Siobhán McGrath. The team built a substantial lead in the first half, adding points from Niamh McGrath, Shannon Corcoran and Klara Donohue, and goals from McGrath, Corcoran and Caoimhe Kelly to lead 3‑10 to 0‑1 at the break. Davitts, who were without key forward Ciara Hickey after she suffered an ACL tear in the All‑Ireland final with Galway, managed only a single point before halftime. In the second half, Sarsfields added further points from McGrath and a goal from Donohue, while Davitts’ Catherine Hanley contributed a late free. The final score was 5‑13 to 1‑5 in favour of Sarsfields.

* **Athenry 1‑19 – 1‑19 Shamrocks (draw)**
The match ended level after a hard‑fought second half. Athenry, missing several regular starters, led 1‑12 to 0‑8 at halftime thanks to scores from Eimear Keane, Kerri O’Driscoll, Kayla Madden and Jessica Gill, and a goal from Clodagh Burke. Shamrocks rallied in the second half with points from Leah O’Halloran and a goal from Katie Donohue, narrowing the gap. A final surge of frees from Burke and points from Katie Gilchrist secured the draw at 1‑19 each.

* **Mullagh 2‑15 – 2‑10 Oranmore Maree**
Oranmore Maree took an early lead when Ailish O’Reilly converted a penalty. Mullagh responded with points from Tegan Canning and Aoife Connaughton, and took the lead for the first time in the second half after a goal from Aoife Donohue. Mullagh extended the advantage with a series of points from Canning, Donohue, Amy King and Katie Manning, finishing 2‑15 to 2‑10.

* **Ardrahan 2‑16 – 2‑10 Clarinbridge**
Ardrahan established control early, with Kate Devereux and U‑16 star Cara Giblin contributing points. Two quick goals from Alisha Quinn and Devereux gave Ardrahan a nine‑point cushion at halftime (2‑9 to 1‑4). In the second half, Ardrahan added further points from Devereux, Giblin and Chloe Cunningham, while Clarinbridge’s Lauren Butler scored a goal. Ardrahan held on to win 2‑16 to 2‑10.

**Senior B**

* **Ahascragh Caltra 3‑10 – 0‑12 Castlegar**
Goals from Emma Reaney, Aoibheann Fitzpatrick and Sarah Noone secured a comfortable victory for Ahascragh Caltra.

* **Salthill Knocknacarra 2‑13 – 2‑12 Carnmore**
Salthill Knocknacarra edged Carnmore by a single point. Carnmore’s Ava Morley scored twice, while Salthill’s Aoibhe Joyce and Sorcha McGinley contributed points.

* **St Thomas’ 3‑22 – 0‑8 Killimor**
