Sangram Singh faces Pakistan’s Abid Ali for STRIKE Asia title in KL

Indian wrestling legend and undefeated MMA fighter Sangram Singh is set for the biggest contest of his combat sports career as he faces Pakistan’s Mohammed Abid Ali for the STRIKE Asia Champion Title in Kuala Lumpur on July 19.

The high-stakes India-Pakistan showdown is scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 PM IST and will be broadcast live on Malaysian National TV and Sports Channel, with global streaming available via pay-per-view. The winner will be crowned STRIKE Asia Champion, adding national pride to the sporting stakes.

Sangram, a two-time Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, has transitioned impressively to MMA with a flawless 3-0 record. He made a stunning debut by defeating Pakistan’s Ali Raza Nasir in just 90 seconds in Georgia, followed by wins over Tunisia’s Hakim Trabelsi in the Netherlands and France’s Florian Coudier in Argentina. His victory in Argentina made him the first Indian to win a professional MMA bout on Argentine soil.

Beyond the cage, Sangram serves as a Fit India Icon and Brand Ambassador for the Swachh Bharat Campaign. His international MMA campaign has support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Speaking ahead of the bout, Sangram said, “Every time I step into the cage, I don’t just fight for myself; I fight for 140 crore Indians. India versus Pakistan is always special, irrespective of the sport, and I fully understand the emotions attached to this contest. I have trained with complete discipline and respect for my opponent, but once the cage closes, my only mission will be to ensure that the Indian flag flies high.”

The title fight has generated significant anticipation in the combat sports community, with fans eagerly awaiting another memorable performance from the unbeaten Indian. Victory would not only earn Sangram the STRIKE Asia Champion Title but also cement his growing legacy in mixed martial arts.
