In a significant blow to local illegal firearm networks, San Juan police have seized a concealed rifle. The weapon was discovered during a targeted operation in Petit Bourg, a part of the ongoing initiative, Operation Steady G.U.A.R.D. The initiative is a coordinated effort aimed at dismantling the infrastructure of violent crime within the North Eastern Division.
The operation, conducted on the evening of March 2, was based on actionable intelligence. A joint team of officers, comprising personnel from the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Santa Cruz CID, and the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), descended on a forested area located off Germain Avenue, near Upper Irving Street. Between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm, the officers combed through the dense vegetation, eventually uncovering a rifle that had been deliberately concealed.
The seized weapon has been sent for detailed ballistic testing. Forensic experts are working to trace the rifle’s origin and determine if it matches any active crime scenes or known criminal activities in the region. This operation is part of a larger, sustained strategy known as Operation Steady G.U.A.R.D., designed to saturate high-risk areas and remove lethal weapons from the streets.
The North Eastern Division leadership emphasises the importance of community cooperation in this fight against crime. They have urged anyone with information about illegal activities or the location of hidden weapons to contact the police, with the assurance that all reports can be made anonymously.
