Same safeguards needed in Canada: AG

**Attorney General Calls for Canadian Children to Receive the Same Online Protections as U.S. Youth**

*June 2026 – East Kootenay, British Columbia* – In a letter to the editor published in a local newspaper, the Attorney General (AG) urged Canadian policymakers to adopt the same online safety safeguards that were recently secured for children in the United States.

The AG’s correspondence referenced the **$18 billion settlement** reached earlier this year between Meta Platforms Inc. and a coalition of U.S. states and consumer‑advocacy groups. Under the terms of that agreement, Meta committed to implement a series of measures aimed at protecting minors from harmful content and interactions on its platforms.

“Canadian children deserve the same online protections as American children,” the AG wrote, emphasizing that the safeguards established in the U.S. settlement should be mirrored in Canada to ensure consistent safety standards across North America.

The letter did not specify particular legislative actions but called on Canadian authorities to consider adopting comparable regulations or guidelines. No official response from the federal government or provincial ministries has been reported at this time.
