Rowley Not on INTERPOL List

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has responded to claims made by former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who alleges he was placed on an INTERPOL watch list during his recent travels. Dr Rowley has called for an explanation from national authorities, suggesting that this supposed listing was a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation internationally. In response, the TTPS initiated a review of its systems through its INTERPOL Bureau. Checks across INTERPOL’s secure databases confirmed that Dr Rowley is not on any watch list or international notice, with no alerts or warrants associated with his name. The TTPS also stated that it has not submitted any information to INTERPOL that would justify such a listing. It emphasized that INTERPOL operates under strict protocols that require judicial documentation or formal requests for listing, which are managed through each member state’s National Central Bureau. The Commissioner of Police does not have the authority to add or remove individuals from INTERPOL’s systems. Additionally, the TTPS refuted allegations of political interference or state-sponsored defamation, asserting its independence as an institution. The TTPS called for responsible public dialogue, highlighting the importance of verified facts in discussions that affect reputational integrity and institutional trust. The TTPS remains dedicated to protecting citizens’ rights and will continue to provide factual updates on the matter.
