Rowley Accuses Government of Using ‘Balisier Bombshell’ to Distract from Country’s Crises

In a recent turn of events, former Prime Minister Dr. Rowley has accused the current administration of using the ‘Balisier Bombshell’ as a political ploy to divert public attention from the country’s escalating economic and social issues. He even went as far as to label the ongoing controversy as a ‘distraction on steroids’, suggesting a clear pattern of manipulation by the government.

Dr. Rowley argued that Trinidad and Tobago are in a state of turmoil, with the government failing to provide a credible solution to the pressing issues the nation faces. From violent crime and foreign exchange shortages to industrial closures and declining revenues, the problems are manifold. Additionally, he criticised the government’s repeated promises regarding the reopening of the refinery, which have been made amidst growing job losses and economic uncertainty.

The former Prime Minister didn’t mince his words when expressing his thoughts on the recent mid-year budget review, labelling it as ‘hollow, very late and terrible.’ He further accused the government of intentionally shifting public discussion away from these issues and towards the alleged lists at T&TEC, which he described as a ‘contrived story’.

Despite the barrage of allegations and the ongoing political controversy, Dr. Rowley emphasised that the People’s National Movement (PNM) remains resilient. He stated, ‘We didn’t survive 70 years (1956 to 2026) to be scared of the UNC that is ruining our country.’ As of now, the government has yet to respond to Dr. Rowley’s latest allegations.
